Counts are rounds in our dataset, not the whole market. A round counts once per firm (a fund's rounds count for its manager), only day-dated rounds fall in the window, and investors a round's own source doesn't name are left out.

How Six Degrees works

  • A link in a chain is a sourced fact: an investor named in a confirmed funding round (with the round, its date and the outlet), a company on an investor's own portfolio page, a fund and its manager on a public filing, or an acquisition.
  • Rumored or low-confidence rounds, IPO underwriters and lenders are left out. So are investors that a round's own source doesn't name. Investors listed only on a company profile, with no page to cite, appear in the detail panel as a dashed line but never make a hop.
  • The search runs breadth-first in your browser, so the chain it returns is a shortest one in the data. When several are tied, the one with the strongest evidence comes first (rounds over listings, a lead over a participant) and the others are one tap away.
  • “Route around the biggest hubs” re-runs the search without the most-connected names, for a less obvious chain.
  • The Orbit puts one name in the centre with its connections around it: who backs it above, what it backs below. Solid lines are sourced links; dashed lines are profile listings. Tap any name to move it to the centre.
  • Share a chain with its link: the two names ride in the URL.
