Miami Tech Week is a decentralized side-event week, not a conference. Nobody owns it, nobody sells a badge for it, and nobody publishes its dates. It started in April 2021 as a spontaneous, Twitter-organized swarm of founder and VC gatherings during the pandemic-era Miami migration, and the format stuck: one anchor conference (eMerge Americas) plus dozens of independently hosted happy hours, demo days, founder dinners, VC office hours, and rooftop everything.
The honest version: the hype cycle has cooled since 2021–2022. Some of the loudest arrivals left — a16z, which opened a Miami office during the boom, closed it in 2024. What remains is smaller but more real: an actual local ecosystem of funds, operators, and companies that live here, which one dense week a year makes legible. The signal moved from “who's moving to Miami” to “who's building in Miami.”
Practically, that means the week is what you assemble: an eMerge pass if you want the main stage, plus a self-curated calendar of side events found through Refresh Miami, eMerge's own satellite programming, host announcements on X/LinkedIn, and invite lists.
