Mexico beating Brazil three quarters running is the structural story, not the 26% headline number -- that's a reordering of where LatAm capital concentrates, not just a cyclical bounce. Endeavor Catalyst's read that the exit door is open but not primarily through IPOs yet is the caveat worth sitting with: funding is back before liquidity is.

Analysis

Startup funding in Latin America rose 26% year over year to $1.3 billion in the third quarter of 2026, even as it slipped 9% from the second quarter, according to Crunchbase News.

The rebound is concentrated at the earliest stages: angel and seed funding jumped 128% quarter over quarter to $266 million, while late-stage and growth funding of $757 million grew 74% year over year.

Mexico has now out-raised Brazil for the year to date -- $1.52 billion versus $1.08 billion through the first three quarters -- reversing a historical pattern in which Brazil typically led the region.

“Investors still see the region's exits lagging its fundraising recovery.”

The quarter's two largest deals were energy companies, not fintech: Chile's Black Giant raised $225 million for a lithium project, and Colombia's Erco Energía raised a $129 million Series C, both at valuations near or above $600 million.

"For several [investors], this marked either their first investment in Latin America or their first in a long time," said Allen Taylor of Endeavor Catalyst, who noted international VCs were more active in Brazil through the first three quarters of 2026 than in all of 2024 and 2025 combined. Decade, a Brazilian AI-native wealth-advisory startup co-founded by former Nubank CTO Vitor Olivier, raised an $85 million seed round -- the largest seed deal Crunchbase has recorded for a Latin American startup.

Investors still see the region's exits lagging its fundraising recovery. "The exit door is open, although it is not primarily opening through IPOs yet," said Igor Piquet of Endeavor Catalyst, pointing to roughly 60 private Latin American tech companies that have each raised at least $150 million as a potential pipeline once public markets catch up.
