Analysis
Value Add VC's own funding tracker now counts 40 separate VC and PE fund closes totaling $72.4 billion, tracked separately from the $766.7 billion in individual company rounds the same dashboard follows.
That number puts last week's cluster of activity -- six firms closing nearly $10 billion between October 20 and October 23, as Pulse covered -- in context: it's one strong week inside a much larger, ongoing wave of fund formation.
The $10 billion week included six closes:
“The $10 billion week included six closes: - Pantheon Secondaries Fund VIII -- $6B (Oct 22), 71% over target.”
- Pantheon Secondaries Fund VIII -- $6B (Oct 22), 71% over target.
- FFL Partners Fund VI -- $1.35B (Oct 23).
- Vintage Investment Partners Fund -- $920M (Oct 23).
- GEM Fund II -- $685M hard cap (Oct 22).
- Monomoy Family Fund I -- $589M (Oct 21).
- Inspired Capital Fund IV -- $450M (Oct 20).
Secondaries and fund-of-funds vehicles -- Pantheon and Vintage among them -- are raising at a pace that rivals or exceeds many direct-investment VC funds, a sign LPs are increasingly comfortable routing commitments through an intermediary rather than picking GPs directly.
None of this is deployment. A fund close means LPs have committed capital a GP hasn't yet invested, so the $72.4 billion figure says more about fundraising appetite heading into 2027 than about which startups will actually receive checks. It is, however, a steadier and less volatile signal than any single mega-round, and one that's been easy to miss underneath this month's trillion-dollar AI valuation headlines.
