Motive profile

written 2026-10-24

Motive, formerly KeepTruckin, sells fleet and physical-operations software; it pulled its IPO in September 2026 after a $1.3 billion General Catalyst financing.

What Motive does

Motive Technologies, Inc. sells what it calls an Integrated Operations Platform: software and hardware that organizations running physical operations use to manage their workers, vehicles, equipment and fleet-related spending. The company's stated mission is to empower the people who run physical operations with tools to make their work safer, more productive and more profitable. It describes itself as the AI platform for physical operations. Its principal executive offices are at 1355 Market Street in San Francisco.[1],[2]

Motive says it serves nearly 100,000 customers, from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. As of September 30, 2025 the company had 4,508 full-time employees, including 3,520 outside the United States, with key hubs in the United States and Pakistan.[2],[3],[4],[1]

History

The company was incorporated in Delaware in March 2013 as Keep Truckin, Inc. By April 2019 it had accumulated 55,000 unique customers with its software deployed in hundreds of thousands of vehicles, and said it planned to double headcount to 2,000 over the following 12 to 18 months. It was operating under the Motive name by May 2022, when FreightWaves described it as formerly known as KeepTruckin.[1],[3],[5]

Motive filed a registration statement for an IPO on December 23, 2025, planning to list on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker MTVE, with J.P. Morgan, Citigroup, Barclays and Jefferies as lead book-running managers. It had not set a share count or price range. On September 10, 2026 it announced more than $1.3 billion in growth financing from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund and withdrew the S-1. CEO Shoaib Makani told FreightWaves the company was very well capitalized and could continue to operate privately, but remained well positioned for the public markets in the future.[1],[2]

Funding

As KeepTruckin, the company raised a $149 million Series D in April 2019 led by Greenoaks Capital, with participation from existing backers GV, IVP, Index Ventures and Scale Venture Partners. The round valued the business at $1.25 billion, according to co-founder and CEO Shoaib Makani.[3]

In June 2021 it raised a $190 million Series E that put the valuation at over $2 billion, according to Makani. G2 Venture Partners participated alongside existing backers Greenoaks Capital, Index Ventures, IVP and Scale Venture Partners and funds managed by BlackRock. FreightWaves later put the post-Series E valuation at $2.3 billion.[4],[5]

In May 2022, now named Motive, it raised a $150 million Series F co-led by Insight Partners and Kleiner Perkins at a $2.85 billion valuation, up from $2.3 billion after the Series E. FreightWaves listed total funding at that point as $567.3 million. The company said the money would go to more AI, expanding the product suite into spend management and growing enterprise sales.[5]

No valuation was disclosed. Note that the FreightWaves author of that article discloses he is also an independent contributor of content for Motive.[6]

The September 2026 General Catalyst deal is growth financing from the firm's Customer Value Fund, not a priced equity round. Pranav Singhvi, a managing director at General Catalyst, joined Motive's board. No source opened states Motive's total equity raised to date.[2]
