Commure profile

Commure raised $70 million at a $7 billion post-money valuation in May 2026, led by General Catalyst, the firm whose CEO cofounded it.

What Commure does

Commure says its platform operates within more than 500 healthcare organizations across 3,000+ sites of care. It also says more than 130 of the nation's largest health systems, including HCA Healthcare and Tenet Healthcare, use it alongside thousands of physician-owned practices. These are company-reported figures from its funding announcement.[1]

Commure says its end-to-end revenue cycle management system completes more than 85% of work without human intervention and processes tens of billions of dollars in annual payments. This is a company claim, and the sources reviewed do not describe how it was measured.[2],[3]

Commure's Ambient AI suite, which includes Autonomous Coding and Clinical Intelligence, supports tens of millions of appointments a year, according to Commure. Commure frames its market as administrative work, which it says costs approximately $1 trillion a year in the United States.[2]

History

Commure was cofounded by Hemant Taneja, CEO of the venture firm General Catalyst, in 2017 and launched in 2020, according to Business Insider. Taneja began building it inside General Catalyst, alongside former leaders from Google, Salesforce and Health Catalyst.[4]

Commure's first product was a developer platform for building applications on health systems' technology. Business Insider reported that the platform was slowly sunsetted after Commure changed CEOs in October 2021, and that a platform for health systems, CommureOS, was unveiled in 2022 under CEO Dr. Ashwini Zenooz and struggled to gain traction, according to former employees.[4]

Business Insider reported in September 2024 that Commure was valued at $6 billion after merging with another General Catalyst portfolio company, Athelas. Two investors told Business Insider the Athelas deal, though announced as a merger, was also an acquisition.[4]

SiliconANGLE described Commure in June 2025 as San Francisco-based, offering more than a half-dozen software products for healthcare organizations.[5]

Funding

Commure announced $70 million in financing at a $7 billion post-money valuation on May 19, 2026. General Catalyst led the round, with participation from Sequoia Capital, Morgan Stanley and Kirkland & Ellis.[3],[2],[1],[5]

Commure said it will use the money to scale its revenue cycle and practice management platform across specialty practices, hospitals and integrated delivery networks, advance its shared intelligence layer for agentic workflows, and expand its AI infrastructure into international healthcare markets.[1],[2]

On June 19, 2025, SiliconANGLE reported that Commure raised $200 million from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund, which helps startups finance sales and marketing programs. The article gave no valuation for that financing. It said Commure had earlier raised $500 million from Nvidia, Y Combinator and other investors.[5],[1]

The sources reviewed do not give a reliable total funding figure for Commure, and HIT Consultant's May 2026 report gives no total funding number.[3],[5]

Revenue

SiliconANGLE reported on June 19, 2025, citing Axios, that Commure's products generated more than $200 million in annual revenue. SiliconANGLE also reported that Commure expected positive cash flow by the end of 2026 and planned to file for an initial public offering the following year.[5]

Commure's 2026 funding announcements give no revenue figure, and the sources reviewed show no IPO filing.[3],[2],[1]

Acquisitions

Business Insider reported that Commure made six acquisitions in four years. Its most notable before Athelas were clinical workflow company PatientKeeper, bought from HCA Healthcare in August 2021, and healthcare safety technology provider Strongline, bought in January 2022. HCA Healthcare received a stake in Commure as part of the PatientKeeper deal.[4]

In July 2024 Commure bought the public medical scribe company Augmedix in a $139 million all-cash deal, according to Business Insider.[4]

Athelas is now described as a Commure subsidiary and company. Commure's 2026 announcement says Athelas specializes in revenue cycle management, ambient AI and FDA-cleared AI-powered diagnostics.[1]

In its September 2024 report, Business Insider said Commure had sued Canopy, the company behind the technology Strongline relied on, in federal court in northern California, and that the case was ongoing. The sources reviewed do not report an outcome.[4]

People

Tanay Tandon is CEO of Commure. Business Insider reported he was previously CEO and cofounder of Athelas and became Commure's CEO after the two companies combined.[1],[4]

Hemant Taneja, CEO of General Catalyst, cofounded Commure and is quoted in its 2026 funding announcement. Business Insider reported in 2024 that Commure had cycled through four CEOs, three of them since its 2020 launch.[2],[4]

Customers and partners

Commure names HCA Healthcare and Tenet Healthcare as health systems that use its platform. HCA Healthcare also took a stake in Commure when it sold PatientKeeper to the company, Business Insider reported, and has partnered with both General Catalyst and Commure.[1],[4]
