Analysis
Reuters reported that some investors are discussing valuing Anthropic's IPO around $1.5 trillion, below the company's own roughly $2 trillion target and well under the $2.3-2.4 trillion figure Pulse previously covered as a prediction that could top SpaceX's record debut, according to Newcomer.
The gap is opening alongside a real deceleration in growth. Anthropic's Q3 revenue rose 46% quarter over quarter to nearly $17 billion, down from 100% sequential growth in the prior quarter. At the same time, the company has said it plans to spend upwards of $500 billion on data center capacity over the next decade -- a capital commitment investors are now weighing against that slowing growth rate rather than taking on faith.
“Anthropic's Q3 revenue rose 46% quarter over quarter to nearly $17 billion, down from 100% sequential growth in the prior quarter.”
Anthropic's position sits inside the same financing jitters hitting the broader "neocloud" sector that Pulse has covered around CoreWeave's bond yields: lenders are demanding borrowing costs near investment-grade, about 6%, for data center debt math to work, while CoreWeave's own bonds have traded near 15%. Anthropic is unusual in that it's both a major AI lab burning compute and, through its own contracts, part of the reason some of that neocloud lending exists in the first place.
Nothing here is confirmed. Anthropic hasn't filed an S-1, and the $1.5 trillion figure is investor discussion reported by Reuters, not a company statement or a banker's term sheet. But it's the first public sign that the $2 trillion-plus framing treated as a foregone conclusion earlier this year is getting real pushback -- and the next data point that will matter is whether Anthropic's growth rate decelerates again in Q4.
