THE RUNDOWN

1

AI infrastructure funding has totaled roughly $17.77 billion across 37 disclosed deals since August 2025, averaging north of $480 million per round -- a pace that dwarfs most other venture categories this cycle.

2

Robotics startups have raised a record $18.8 billion in 2026, while defense tech has logged 107 venture rounds this year, both categories tracking ahead of 2025's already-record pace.

3

Digital health funding reached $7.4 billion in the first half of 2026, with AI-powered platforms driving the rebound after several slower years in the category.

4

This issue's three reported funding-section deals -- spanning cybersecurity, medical devices and enterprise media -- total roughly $625 million, illustrating how concentrated venture dollars remain in a handful of AI-adjacent categories.

The spread across cybersecurity, enterprise media and biotech in one issue is the real signal -- there's no single hot sector right now, just AI infrastructure and AI-native workflows showing up inside nearly every category simultaneously. Diligence item: when a deal's pitch leans on 'AI' as the category, ask whether it's actually AI-infrastructure-adjacent (where the mega-rounds are) or AI-adjacent positioning on a more conventional business (where round sizes are a fraction of the size).

Analysis

Three reported deals in this issue's funding section total roughly $625 million in disclosed capital:

  • Island -- $400M Series F at a $6.4B valuation: AI-agent and enterprise browser security.
  • Brahma AI -- $150M round at a $2B valuation: enterprise AI for media, sports and healthcare content.
  • BigHat Biosciences -- $75M Series C, $223M total raised: AI-designed antibody therapeutics.

The rest of this issue's funding section looks at the broader pattern behind those three deals: a wave of $1 billion-plus mega-rounds and a rebound in digital-health financing, both detailed elsewhere in this section.

“- Island -- $400M Series F at a $6.4B valuation: AI-agent and enterprise browser security.”

The broader 2026 numbers back up that concentration. Pulse's own tracking shows:

None of this means every AI-adjacent startup is getting funded easily -- round sizes for newer, less proven categories remain a fraction of the mega-rounds going to hardware- or infrastructure-heavy plays with government- or hyperscaler-scale contracts already in hand. The gap is mostly one of contract size and capital intensity, not conviction.
