Crunchbase's investor-level breakdown of Q3 2026 shows most active investors increased their deal counts even as total venture dollars fell -- with Insight Partners, Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital all leading more rounds than the prior quarter. Pulse's own tracking put last quarter's private venture funding at:
- North America -- $92 billion.
- Europe -- $25 billion.
- Combined -- roughly $117 billion.
“The picture is of a private market still moving plenty of capital, just spread across more, smaller checks from the same handful of top-tier shops.”
The picture is of a private market still moving plenty of capital, just spread across more, smaller checks from the same handful of top-tier shops.
That $117 billion figure dwarfs what the public IPO market has produced this quarter: Pulse's tracking of the IPO pipeline found a stretch of nine new S-1 filings following a week that had produced just one pricing, worth $100 million. A single quarter of private funding is multiples of a slow year's worth of IPO proceeds.
The investor-concentration angle is the more useful signal for anyone reading quarterly VC data as a market-health gauge. Rising deal count at firms like Insight, a16z and Sequoia even as the denominator -- total dollars -- shrinks means the same firms are underwriting more of the market's risk, not less, just in smaller increments per deal. That's a different story than "VCs are pulling back," and it changes how founders should read a slower fundraising environment: capital is still there, just distributed differently than the aggregate headline suggests.
