OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, an AI presentation startup founded by Ahmed Beshry in mid-2025, folding the full team into ChatGPT's product organization, the company confirmed this week according to TechCrunch. Financial terms were not disclosed.
NextSlide's product took messy notes, prompts, research documents and existing decks and turned them into polished, editable slide presentations using AI -- a narrower, more specific bet than ChatGPT's general-purpose chat interface, aimed at the same workplace-productivity use case Microsoft Copilot and Google's Gemini for Workspace already target inside PowerPoint and Slides. Beshry credited Fidji Simo, OpenAI's CEO of applications, with recognizing the startup's product and pushing the deal forward.

The acquisition is the latest in a run of small, disclosed-terms-free tuck-ins OpenAI has made through 2026 as it builds out ChatGPT's productivity surface beyond conversation, following earlier deals for developer-tooling and personal-finance startups this year. None of these deals individually move OpenAI's valuation, but together they read as a company deliberately assembling an office-suite competitor one narrow feature at a time rather than building each piece from scratch.
For a lab that already ships documents, spreadsheets and now slides inside ChatGPT, the real risk is that Microsoft and Google -- both of which already own enterprise distribution through Office 365 and Workspace seats -- ship comparable AI features before OpenAI's bolted-together suite earns habitual use.
