Dimension Capital closed an $800 million third fund this week, 60% larger than the $500 million second vehicle it raised just 18 months earlier -- a growth rate that stands out sharply against a fundraising environment where many newer venture firms are struggling to close any new fund at all. The New York-based firm invests at the intersection of science and compute, and now manages $1.65 billion in assets across 35 portfolio companies.
Dimension was founded in late 2022 by Zavian Dar and Adam Goulburn, both former partners at Lux Capital, together with Obvious Ventures alum Nan Li. The firm's thesis -- that AI compute is becoming as foundational to biotech and life-sciences breakthroughs as it already is to software -- has been validated by a run of portfolio outcomes that made this larger third fund possible.

The clearest proof point: Dimension co-led a $30 million seed round in Chai Discovery in 2024, a company building open-source AI foundation models for drug development. Chai Discovery announced last week it had raised $400 million at a $3.8 billion valuation -- a roughly 100x-plus markup on Dimension's initial check in under two years. The firm also backed NewLimit, an anti-aging startup co-founded by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, at its Series A in early 2025.
The fund's rapid size growth says as much about LP sentiment as it does about Dimension's own track record: capital is actively rotating toward managers who can credibly underwrite both the biology and the compute infrastructure sides of a deal, a combination that's rarer than either pure-biotech or pure-AI-infrastructure specialization alone.
What to watch: how quickly Dimension deploys the new $800 million given the pace of its prior two funds, and whether Chai Discovery's markup proves durable or gets tested at its next round.
