A tiny check on paper, but 'nuclear power you can tow to a port in days instead of permitting a fixed plant for a decade' is exactly the kind of physical-AI-adjacent infrastructure bet that's underrated right now -- data centers need gigawatts faster than the grid can deliver them. Regulatory pathway is the real risk here, not the engineering. Worth tracking whether the NRC treats a mobile reactor design as a genuinely faster licensing lane or just a novel wrapper on the same old timeline.

Bluecore Energy raised $10 million in a pre-seed round led by Slauson & Co. to build small modular nuclear reactors mounted on floating barges, targeting ports and data centers as its first customers. Founder Kofi Asante, a former Uber Freight executive, started the company just seven months ago -- an unusually fast path from founding to a funded, physical hard-tech product with secured infrastructure already in place.

The technical design is deliberately simple: a water-cooled, closed-loop small modular reactor heats water into steam, which spins a turbine to generate electricity, all housed on a barge that can be towed by ship to wherever power is needed. Because the entire power plant moves rather than requiring years of fixed-site construction and permitting, Bluecore's pitch is that it can bring clean baseload power to a port or coastline in days rather than the decade-plus timeline typical of conventional nuclear buildouts. The reactor design only needs refueling once every few years.
