Analysis
U&I Ventures closed the oversubscribed final close of its debut fund at $32.237 million on Oct. 29, the San Francisco-based seed-stage firm said, to back pre-seed and seed founders building AI-native security, engineering and IT infrastructure software, according to the firm's announcement.
What U&I Ventures does
Founded in 2025 by general partner Kim Moore, who spent more than a decade at Glynn Capital and Innovation Endeavors before launching U&I, the firm has already backed nine AI-native engineering and security software startups. Fund I plans to back 40 to 45 pre-seed and seed-stage companies in total, with initial checks ranging from $250,000 to more than $800,000 -- a volume-driven approach that trades ownership percentage for broader portfolio coverage. Founding Operating Partner Kim Cooper leads the firm's operator community and value-creation platform, and Joaquin Guzman heads operations.
U&I Ventures fund history
This is U&I's first fund, so there is no prior vehicle to compare it against. What distinguishes the raise is less its size than how it was built: the firm says it is organized around a community of 1,800 CIOs, CTOs and CISOs, including roughly 650 security executives, 850 CTOs and more than 300 CIOs, who function as both a diligence network and a warm-introduction engine for portfolio companies before and after each check is written.

Who backed U&I Ventures, and who it backs
The release does not name U&I's own limited partners. It does detail how the network helps portfolio companies raise their own rounds:
- Pluto Security -- founded by CEO Shahar Bahat; used U&I's network to reach 68 enterprise CISOs in under 24 hours during its own oversubscribed seed round, led by TLV Partners with backing from a16z speedrun; has since raised $42M total across two rounds.
Alex Stamos, chief security officer at Cognition and formerly of Facebook and Yahoo, is quoted in the firm's announcement, though he is not identified as a U&I investor or advisor -- more likely a credibility endorsement than a financial backer.
AI security market and competitors
U&I is investing into a fast-growing segment: one industry estimate puts the broader AI-driven cybersecurity market at $10.82 billion in 2024, projected to reach $172 billion by 2029 -- a 73.9% compound annual growth rate -- according to data an industry blog attributes to Gartner.
The same source notes ten agentic AI security startups alone raised a combined $3.6 billion, underscoring how much capital is already chasing the category U&I is underwriting at the earliest, most capital-efficient stage.
What to watch next
U&I's bet is that its operator network, not just its capital, is the differentiator -- a thesis that will be tested as portfolio companies like Pluto Security raise follow-on rounds without U&I's name attached to the lead check. Watch whether U&I's claimed CISO and CTO network converts into paying enterprise customers for its portfolio at a rate large multi-stage funds can't match, and whether the firm's next fund, if LPs re-up, grows materially beyond $32 million.
