Analysis
As of November 4, 2026, Meta has acquired Conductor, an AI coding startup that lets developers run multiple coding agents in parallel workspaces, according to TechCrunch. Meta confirmed the deal but disclosed no price or other terms. Axios first reported the acquisition, and Conductor founder and CEO Charlie Holtz announced it on the company's own blog: "I have big news: Conductor is joining Meta."
What Conductor does
Conductor, founded in 2024, lets users spin up software projects by deploying multiple AI agents into isolated, parallel workspaces, drawing on models from outside labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI rather than a model it built in-house, per TechCrunch. Its agentic teams can run in the cloud, locally, or from a phone, letting engineers work on separate parts of a project at the same time. Conductor launched its core product in summer 2025, after about a year in development.
Conductor's funding history
Conductor's funding history is thin in public records. A startup-funding tracker, JustRaised, reports that Conductor raised a $22 million Series A on March 31, 2026, with participation from Matrix Partners -- a figure not confirmed by Conductor or Meta directly, so it should be read as reported rather than as settled fact. No valuation or lead investor for that round has been disclosed anywhere Pulse could verify.

Who's behind the deal
Holtz said he's looking forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta's chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta Superintelligence Labs -- the unit that now absorbs the Conductor team. He described "big, crazy plans for the next interface" and said Conductor will ship "something new" by early next year. Meta "wouldn't comment further or provide additional details about the deal," per TechCrunch, leaving open whether this was an acqui-hire, a technology buy, or both.
AI coding-agent market and competitors
The AI code-assistant market was worth about $4.6 billion in 2025 and is estimated at $9.8 billion in 2026, on its way to $68.71 billion by 2036 at a 21.5% compound annual growth rate, according to Meticulous Research.
Several rivals are already monetizing at scale inside that market, per the same Meticulous Research report:
- Anthropic (Claude Code) -- reportedly reached a revenue run-rate above $2.5 billion by February 2026.
- Anysphere (Cursor) -- passed $2 billion in annualized revenue by early 2026.
- Lovable -- reached $100 million in annual recurring revenue within eight months of its 2025 launch.
Pulse has tracked Meta's AI spending closely this year, and this acquisition is a relatively small line item next to that capital program -- but it signals Meta thinks it needs more than Muse Code's 10 million users to compete on developer tooling.
What to watch next
The caveat is that Meta disclosed no price, so there's no way yet to judge whether this was a bargain acqui-hire or a meaningful technology premium. Current Conductor Cloud users face a hard deadline: the hosted service shuts down November 20, after which Meta says it will begin deleting user cloud data, even as "core features" keep working under the existing app until early next year. Watch whether Holtz and his team actually ship the promised new interface on schedule, and whether Meta folds Conductor's parallel-workspace approach into Muse Code or keeps it as a separate product.
