Analysis
July delivered the highest number of billion-dollar-plus venture rounds ever recorded in a single month: fourteen, according to new Crunchbase data, totaling $65 billion in combined capital -- double what the same month raised a year earlier. The largest single check was a $10 billion investment in Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos's space company, its first outside financing since founding.
Where the Mega-Rounds Landed
The geographic breakdown reinforces a pattern that's held all year: nine of the fourteen mega-rounds went to US-based companies, with two each in Germany and China and one in Singapore. Despite plenty of global AI investment headlines, the largest individual checks continue to concentrate overwhelmingly in the US.

Part of a Record First Half
July's total also caps a genuinely record-setting first half of 2026, when global startup investment reached $515 billion -- meaning the trend toward fewer, larger rounds isn't a mid-year blip but a sustained pattern running through the entire year so far. Blue Origin taking outside capital for the first time is itself notable: space companies that spent years running on founder capital are increasingly turning to the same mega-round structure now standard across AI infrastructure and defense tech.
What to watch: whether August and September sustain a similar pace of billion-dollar rounds heading into what's traditionally a slower fundraising season, and whether Blue Origin's debut outside round pulls more previously self-funded space and hard-tech companies into the same capital-raising pattern.
