What Reservoir does

Reservoir makes heat pump water heaters designed to heat water when electricity demand and prices are low.[1] Each unit spends its first month in a home learning water-use patterns, then runs its heat pump at the cheapest and most efficient times.[1] The heat pump is nearly four times more efficient than an electric water heater and five times more efficient than a natural gas model.[1] The heaters also include an ultrasonic flow sensor that alerts homeowners to plumbing leaks.[1] The Max version costs $6,500 and the base Core version $5,000, with installation included.[1] The Boston area is its first market.[1] The funding is meant to put more of its water heaters into Boston-area homes.[1] Over time, Reservoir could pool its fleet to take part in utility demand response programs.[1]

Business model and customers

To simplify pricing and sales, Reservoir started its own plumbing company.[1]

Leadership

  • The company was co-founded by Luke Winston-Almanzar, formerly chief business officer at Formlabs, with Gabriel Parisi-Amon and Jake Felser.[1]
