Y Combinator is the world's most prestigious startup accelerator — alumni include Airbnb, Stripe, DoorDash, Coinbase, and Reddit. Twice a year, Demo Day showcases the latest batch to hundreds of investors. Some startups walk away with millions in commitments before the day is over. But does that early buzz actually predict which companies will succeed?
We tracked 274 YC companies across 20 years of batches (S05 through S25) and categorized each as a "hot" Demo Day pick, a "moderate" performer, or a "sleeper" that flew under the radar. The results are striking: R²=0.09, meaning Demo Day hype explains less than 10% of the variance in long-term outcomes.
The dashboard includes 274 verified YC accelerator companies spanning every major era: the early classics (Reddit, Dropbox, Twitch), the unicorn factory years (Stripe, Airbnb, Instacart), the SaaS boom (Retool, Vanta, Mercury), and the AI explosion (Cursor, Scale AI, Firecrawl). Each company is tracked with batch, valuation, funding raised, industry, founding year, and key milestone dates.
