A rebrand-of-the-rebrand two years into a strategy is the tell I look for before believing any enterprise AI-attach number a vendor puts in an earnings call -- ask specifically for the Agentforce revenue-attach rate at Dreamforce, not the customer-logo count. If Salesforce can't produce that number cleanly, the branding retreat is the more honest disclosure than anything in the deck.

Analysis

Salesforce is dropping the 'Agentforce' name from some of its top products ahead of its annual Dreamforce conference, The Information reported.

Over the past two years, Salesforce had systematically folded its entire cloud portfolio under the Agentforce brand -- Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Commerce Cloud, Field Service, Revenue Cloud and most of its vertical-industry products all took on Agentforce naming as CEO Marc Benioff pushed the company to position itself as an AI-agent company first and a CRM company second; Benioff had even floated renaming Salesforce Tower itself to 'Agentforce Tower.'

A rebrand-of-the-rebrand ahead of the industry's biggest enterprise software conference of the year is a visible signal that the branding push outran what customers actually understood or wanted. Enterprise buyers evaluating CRM tools have reportedly struggled to map Agentforce-branded product names back to the actual Sales Cloud, Service Cloud or Marketing Cloud products their teams already use day to day.

Salesforce's Agentforce push has been central to Benioff's public narrative since its 2024 launch, positioned as the company's answer to fears that AI agents would disintermediate traditional SaaS platforms altogether. A partial rebrand doesn't abandon that strategy outright, but it does concede that the branding got ahead of product clarity for the customers Salesforce actually needs to keep renewing multi-year CRM contracts.

Salesforce's retreat lands the same week Fortune reported that corporate AI adoption broadly is moving from 'FOMO' to 'hangover,' with roughly 5% of employees who have GenAI access using it effectively while poor and average performers dominate initial adoption. Salesforce's own agentic-AI push is arguably the highest-profile enterprise test case of that exact dynamic, and a partial rebrand retreat is a concrete data point that enthusiasm outran product-market fit, at least on the marketing side.

What to watch: whether this is purely a naming correction or an early signal of slower Agentforce revenue-attach rates than Salesforce has publicly guided to -- Dreamforce itself, later this year, will be the venue where Salesforce either confirms this is cosmetic or reveals deeper strategic softening on agentic AI.
